The Deliberate Practice Loop

Daily reflection · weekly review · monthly Path Review

By Russ Sanderlin
The Deliberate Practice Loop
The steady work of showing up isn't heroic. It's a small, layered loop — two minutes a day, ten minutes a week, twenty minutes a month — that quietly compounds into a decade of real growth.
Russ’s take

Why a loop, not a hero moment

Most growth advice sells you a hero moment — a bold pivot, a viral resignation letter, a life-changing weekend workshop. The truth is quieter and much more boring: the people who compound their careers over a decade run the same small loop, over and over. Reflect. Adjust. Show up again tomorrow.

The Deliberate Practice Loop is that boring, quiet loop, made explicit.

The three cadences

1. Two-minute reflection — every day

One question. One honest answer. That's the whole thing. On the Practices hub, this is the top-left widget. You don't need to write a paragraph. You need to notice — what mattered, what you learned, what's the one thing worth carrying into tomorrow.

Two minutes. That's the ask.

2. Weekly reflection — every Sunday

Ten minutes on Sunday. Three questions:

  • What worked this week?
  • What didn't?
  • What's the one thing you'll shift next week?
Executive-quality clarity in less time than your morning coffee. Members get a guided template at `/app/weekly-reflection` — it's ten minutes because it should be ten minutes, not because we couldn't figure out how to make it longer.

3. Monthly Path Review — every four weeks

Twenty minutes once a month to zoom out. Your growth dimensions, your practice signals, your next chapter. The coach walks you through it. This is where the weekly noticing becomes a story you can act on.

Why the loop compounds

Every cadence feeds the next one. Daily reflections give you the raw material for the weekly review. Weekly reviews give the Path Review its texture. The Path Review reshapes what you notice daily.

Miss a day? Fine. Miss a week? Also fine. The loop isn't a chain to be broken — it's a rhythm to return to. What matters is the return.

Start with the two-minute reflection

If you take one thing from this: start today with two minutes. One question, one honest answer. That's the whole loop, compressed. The rest builds from there.

The Practices hub is designed around this loop — the coach reads your signals and knows where you are. Show up, and the platform meets you there.
